PlayStation Now Review: 5Mbps vs. 100Mbps – Streaming Games Still Needs a LOT of Work.

PlayStation Now, xCloud, Google Stadia, so many services are making this big push for gamers to finally start streaming their games. And understandably no one wants to. Sony’s PlayStation Now has been here for a few years, and I think it’s time we really put it to the test. We give PS Now a pop quiz in Internet speeds and we test my patience for what threatens the very existence of my shelf that displays all my games. I hope you’re happy Sony.

  1. I don't think internet speeds will catch up. Today we want to play 1080p and 60 fps games but the upload speeds are struggling with PS2 era games at 480p.

  2. What's funny is you follow Sonys 5mb recommendation but don't follow the wired this is a terrible review if you're not going to do follow everything to see how it works Then why did you do any of it at all

  3. Seriously sir, I cannot thank you enough for this review. As someone with no access to my Ps4 for I don't yet have any idea how long, just a laptop and mobile data…
Knowing this helps tremendously. Thank you.

I wonder if I'm anywhere near as screwed with Steam…

Highly appreciate this. New Subscriber here ♡

  4. >plays on wifi
    >calls plugging in an Ethernet cable "jumping through hoops"
    >says service is bad
    >probably watches porn on console

  5. I have 1000mbps internet and playstation now still lags. Fuck google stadia game streaming is not the future and I never want it to be

  6. I absolutely recommend that you use ethernet for consoles, even if you're not game streaming it makes a huge difference when playing online or downloading games and/or updates, Moreover, it doesn't restrict you to the rooms in which your console is useable as you can buy a relatively cheap power line adapter

  7. First time watcher. Great video. Stadia is only 20Mbps according to their website for 1080p/60. As well it is not launching world wide its launching in places with good Internet. I was just wondering if you would be willing to do this test again once Stadia launches this fall and of course use your PS4 controller. 👍

  8. I was seriously considering ps now, I tried the trial for 2 weeks or something. With around 200 GODDAMN MB'S dowloadspeed. And it still had a huge input delay, made me cancle the whole thing. I dont want to feel like playing share play all the time.

  9. sony will not just be a streaming service will not be a playstation discless only noooo.playstation now needs to improve on both ps4 ps5.connection needs to improve more on ps4 because darn still sturts on menu ive noticed doesnt when connection is stable but isnt is 71mb down nearly 18 up dont make sense.wish sony would remove old kit browser replace useing a better implemented browser what includes filtering dont think will happen.clearing error history

  10. Not allowing to download loads of games on the PSN is a massive failure for Sony. I will never renew my subscription because of this, unless they fix it within the year.

  11. sony should just make a proper ps3 emulator for the next gen,not only because it gives more people access to old games but also because it keeps those games playable even after the consoles life cycle ends

  12. By the following Christmas period the stadia is released it will be bargain bucket stuff. The internet infrastructure of the majority of the world isn't ready for the quality we imagine for streaming current games and no matter how big the company is launching a streaming only service with these types of devices need to actually live in a real household.

  13. i just try it for free 7 day no credit card and its fucking great no lag nothing nothing who will ruined your gameplay !

  14. What I don't like about PS Now is that you can't earn trophies on PS4 games. I want to earn trophies in PS4 games as it would be nice.

  15. I have 300/30 in my house and I just started using PlayStation Now on my great PC build.
I LOVE the idea of playing a game within minutes rather than having to wait possibly hours to download some games, but for me, being a part of the PC master race means utilizing my 144hz and 240hz monitors to their maximum, not having horrible input lag. I will most likely just use PS Now to play PS exclusives like The Last of Us until a few years from now when PS4 emulators can actually run games.

  16. Why use this service…. I have a great internet provider, great speed…. couldn't ask for more.
I mainly game on PS, but I own an X.
On the X, I pay for the Game Pass and EA, its cheap as chips and the quality is perfect, never an issue.
My pal, that I stupidly listened too who is a die hard playstation fan, you know the type, the ones that think there is this imaginary war between Microsoft and Sony… he said it's like the GP on Xbox.
Fantastic, stupidly took the plunge because there are so many games on there, months worth of entertainment and games I love.
Shit the bed! Like this guy said, it's like watching a low quality youtube video, one moment it's fine and then you cant see fuck all, the lag is laughable….. and they're selling this shit!
Playstaion I love you, you're my console of choice, but for fuck sake… sort some shit out.
Repair PSN because it's down in the UK as much as it's working, and PS Now is a laughing stock.

  17. For sure the PS Now service is not up to scratch, but it's also a first generation technology made in an era when game streaming was really not even remotely on the industry radar and was more just Sony testing the waters. Google's Stadia will definitely set a new standard (albeit, it won't be perfect) for game streaming just due to the sheer infrastructure resources Google has behind them with their data centers. Similarly, Amazon and Microsoft will have these capabilities as well, and Microsoft is probably the most well positioned to succeed because they also have gaming industry experience. This is probably why Sony has partnered with them to utiliise Azure services, as they seek to offer a better service than PS Now.

  18. I'm a die hard PlayStation player, but Xbox is kicking Sony's ass when it comes to streaming services. I love Xbox Game Pass now that they've really invested a lot into it. Sony completely fucked themselves when they didn't give themselves a way to have backwards compatibility. It's a problem that Sony HAS to solve if they plan on keeping up with Xbox in the streaming market during the next gen.
